Our contribution: innovation to reduce CO2 emissions

Our first innovation focuses on making green hydrogen cost competitive. Hydrogen is central to helping the world achieve zero emissions by 2050.

In places such as heavy industries and long-haul transportation, where electrification falls short, green hydrogen is a beacon of decarbonization. On the path to net zero, it could contribute up to 20% of the emissions reductions needed, the Hydrogen Council estimates.

However, the global installed capacity for electrolysis is nowhere near enough. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), 550 GW will be needed by 2030, compared to 0.7 GW of capacity today. Our technology will play a key role to achieve such an ambitious goal in an economically viable way.

At Matteco, our ambition is to serve an installed capacity of more than 500 GW of alkaline and AEM electrolyzers over the next ten years. Hence, by 2034 our materials would help eliminate the annual emission of more than 600 million metric tons of CO2.

To put it into perspective, it would take 22,000 million trees to capture all that carbon, equivalent to the emissions from 108 million cars or 3,600 million transoceanic flights.
